The story

A gift the forest only gives when it stays wild.

Brazil nut trees rise as high as fifty metres above the Amazon canopy and can live for centuries. They depend on wild orchid bees for pollination and on the agouti to spread their seeds — which is why virtually every Brazil nut in the world is still gathered from standing, intact forest.

Each heavy pod, the size of a coconut, holds a dozen or more nuts. Collected by forest communities in the rainy season, they are dried, shelled and graded — a supply chain that keeps the forest more valuable standing than cleared.
